About Merstone House
Merstone House is a residential care home in the Solihull part of Birmingham. We support adults who need help with daily living, including older people and adults whose mental health makes living alone difficult. Many of the people here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays for planned breaks or for a settled period when things elsewhere have become hard to manage. The house runs around the people in it. Everyone has a say in their own day, from when they get up to what goes on the shopping list, and we support people to keep hold of the work, courses, hobbies and friendships that were part of their life before they moved in. Support with medication, appointments and money is offered in a way that builds confidence rather than takes over, and we are clear that adults are entitled to make their own decisions, including ones we might not make ourselves. Mental health does not run in a straight line, and staff here are used to that. Some weeks need very little from us and some weeks need a great deal, and neither is treated as a failure. We work with community mental health teams, GPs and social workers so that support here fits with everything happening outside. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
