About Bradbury Lodge
Bradbury Lodge is a residential care home in Whitchurch, Shropshire, supporting adults with learning disabilities and people with loss of sight or hearing. Where somebody has sensory loss alongside a learning disability, the ordinary assumptions of care stop holding. You cannot announce yourself from a doorway and expect to be heard, and a great deal of what might look like reluctance or withdrawal is really a failure on our part to make contact in a way that reaches the person. So communication is the central task here rather than a preliminary to it, and we use signing, touch, objects of reference, symbols, routine and consistency, whatever suits the individual. Beyond that this is a home like any other. People arrange their own rooms, take part in the shopping and cooking as much as they want to, and are supported to get out to clubs, appointments and family. Short respite stays are available alongside permanent places, which can give a family carer a break or let somebody try the house first. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us if you would like to visit.
