About The Porterbrook
We are a residential care home in Sheffield, caring for older people and younger adults. We support people living with dementia, people with mental health needs, people with physical disabilities and those affected by sight or hearing loss. Because the people who live here vary a good deal in age and in what they need, we plan support person by person rather than running the house to a single timetable. Somebody in their nineties living with dementia and somebody in their forties recovering their confidence after a long illness do not want the same day, and it would be lazy of us to give them one. Our team helps with personal care, medicines, mobility, meals and the practical parts of daily life, always at the level a person actually needs. For those living with dementia we keep surroundings calm and familiar and train staff to look for the cause of distress instead of simply responding to how it appears. Where sight or hearing loss makes a busy household hard to follow, small consistent adjustments make more difference than anything grand. Respite stays are available for people who need shorter periods of support or whose family carer needs a break, and we plan them as thoroughly as a permanent move.
