About Arbour Street
Arbour Street is a small residential care home in Southport supporting adults with a learning disability and adults who are autistic. We work with younger adults, and we can offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Being small is the point. People here are known as individuals rather than managed as a group, and the week is built around what each person wants from it, whether that is a course, a job, regular time with family, a favourite trip out or simply a settled routine that nobody disturbs. Our team learns how each person communicates, including those who do not use speech, and pays attention to the signs that somebody is uncomfortable, bored or unwell. When a person becomes distressed we look for the cause. There is nearly always one, and finding it is far more useful than managing the behaviour. People choose their own food, have their own space respected and are supported to do as much for themselves as they wish. Where somebody wants to build a new skill, we expect that to take as long as it takes. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you would like to visit or discuss a placement, please get in touch and we will arrange a time.
