About Autumn Lodge
Autumn Lodge is a residential care home in West Bromwich supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, including many younger adults. We provide permanent places and planned respite stays. We run a house where people live rather than a unit where people are placed. Residents have their own rooms, a real say in how the household works and support that has been planned with them instead of written about them. Our staff are here to help people do things for themselves wherever that is possible, and we look for ways to build skills and confidence rather than quietly taking tasks over. Getting the environment right is fundamental to what we do. Noise, lighting, predictability and knowing what is coming next often make the difference between someone who is settled and someone who is permanently braced. We shape the house around the people living in it rather than expecting them to fit around us. Communication works the same way. Where a person signs, uses symbols or an app, or communicates through behaviour we have learned to read, the responsibility for understanding sits with us. Life beyond the front door matters as well, and we support people to keep up college, work, volunteering, friendships and family contact. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission for this home. Families, prospective residents and professionals are welcome to visit and ask us how we work.
