About The Orchard
The Orchard is a residential care home in Selby supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. We offer permanent places and respite stays. We think a good home is one where the people living in it are genuinely in charge of the ordinary things. What is for tea, what time the music goes on, whether today is a day for going out or a quiet one in. Staff are here to make those choices possible rather than to manage them away. Where somebody wants to take on more for themselves, we support it steadily and without fuss. That might be cooking, shopping, managing money, travelling independently, or keeping up a job, a course or a volunteering placement. We go at the person's pace rather than one that suits our paperwork. Communication gets real attention here. A number of the people we support do not rely on speech, and understanding somebody properly is the difference between them running their own life and having it arranged for them. Selby is on the doorstep and people here use it, keeping up the interests and friendships that were theirs before they moved in. We work closely with families and with the professionals involved. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are looking for a place or a respite stay in North Yorkshire, please get in touch and come and visit.
