About Marina Lodge
Marina Lodge in Scarborough is a residential home for adults with mental health needs, most of them younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. What we are for is helping people live settled, ordinary lives, and most of what that takes is not clinical. People here have their own rooms and make them their own, keep their own hours, come and go, and have a real say in what is bought and cooked. We encourage people to do as much for themselves as they want to, and to take on more when they are ready, because a house where everything is done for you is a house where confidence drains away. We should be open about where we stand. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement overall. We did not dispute the findings. Since then we have strengthened staffing and supervision, tightened how we manage medicines and the records we keep, and had senior staff check the support actually being given rather than the support described on paper. That work continues and we are not going to claim it is finished. We would far rather raise this ourselves and answer questions honestly than leave somebody to find it out later. People tell us that steadiness and clear expectations help more than reassurance, so we try to be predictable and straightforward, and we work with community mental health teams rather than in isolation.
