About St Anne's Community Services - Boroughbridge Road
We are a residential care home on Boroughbridge Road in Knaresborough, part of St Anne's, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. We also offer respite stays. This is a house people live in rather than a placement they occupy. Everyone has their own room and their own belongings, and everyone has a genuine say in how the household runs, from what is cooked to how the week is arranged. Our staff support people to do things rather than doing things for them, which takes longer and is exactly the point. Communication is where our work always begins. Some of the people here use speech, others use signs, symbols or objects, and others tell us what they need through behaviour that takes time and patience to understand properly. We learn each person's way and we keep learning, because how somebody communicates is not fixed. Routines here are steady, and changes are planned and talked through well in advance rather than sprung on anyone. We also think carefully about sensory things such as noise, light and how busy a space feels, which often decide whether a day is manageable or overwhelming. Respite guests are part of the household while they are with us. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. If you would like to visit, please get in touch and we will arrange it.
