About Melrose House
We are Melrose House in Cullercoats, North Tyneside. We are a residential care home supporting older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people dealing with problems related to alcohol or drugs. We also offer respite stays. Supporting that mixture of people works only if you take each person as they are, so everybody here has their own plan, written with them, covering how they want to be supported and what they would rather manage themselves. We would sooner change an arrangement that is not working than defend it. We are a few minutes from the coast and we make use of it. Getting out, whether that is along the front, into the village or over to see family, matters to people and we treat it as part of daily life rather than as an outing to be organised occasionally. Our staff team is kept as steady as we can manage. Familiarity does more for people here than any programme could, particularly for those who find change unsettling. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep auditing our own practice, because a home is only as good as its last shift. If you are considering a placement in the North Tyneside area, please come and visit, meet the people who live here and see how the house runs on an ordinary day.
