About Hayway
Hayway is a residential care home in Rushden, North Northamptonshire, supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays for people who need a place for a shorter period. This is somewhere people live their own lives, not somewhere they are looked after in the passive sense. People choose how their rooms look, take part in shopping, cooking and keeping the house going as much as they want to and are able to, and get out to what they actually enjoy in Rushden and further afield. Where somebody wants a job, a college course or a regular club, that goes into the plan rather than being treated as an optional extra. The difference here is made in detail. Knowing what a crowded room, an unannounced change or a particular noise does to a given person. Giving warning well ahead. Communicating in the way that genuinely reaches somebody, whether that is speech, symbols, writing or simply unhurried time. We keep the staff team consistent, because familiarity does more good here than any technique, and we train people to head off distress rather than respond to it. We work closely with families, social workers and health colleagues, and welcome being challenged when we misread something. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall. Visitors and referrers are welcome to come and see the house.
