About Furze Hill House

Furze Hill House is a residential care home in North Walsham, Norfolk. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for families needing a planned break. We resist the idea that a good home is a busy one. Some of the best days here involve a newspaper, a warm room and nothing arranged at all. Dementia care here rests on knowing people. We ask families for the history, the working life, the places and the music, because those are what still connect when much else has slipped. Without them we would be managing a condition rather than keeping company with a person. Respite is not a holding arrangement as far as we are concerned. We prepare before somebody arrives so that the stay starts well rather than settling down slowly. We train staff properly and supervise them, and we would rather a new member of the team worked alongside somebody experienced for longer than felt awkward. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. The things we have improved most came from complaints rather than compliments.
