About Acorn Residential Home
We are Acorn Residential Home in Mitcham, in the London borough of Merton. We are a residential care home for older people and younger adults, and we support people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions or an eating disorder, and people with sight or hearing loss. We also offer respite stays. That is a broad range of people under one roof, and it works because we take each person as they come. Everybody here has their own plan, their own routine and their own room, and we shape the day around individuals rather than expecting individuals to fit a fixed programme. Some people want company from morning until night, others want to be left in peace with the door open, and both are entirely reasonable. Food, familiarity and being listened to are the three things people mention most, so we put our effort there. Meals are cooked on site with attention to what people actually enjoy, our staff teams are kept as settled as we can manage, and we ask for views regularly, from residents and relatives alike. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep looking at our own practice honestly, because a home is only ever as good as the last shift. You are welcome to visit, meet the people who live here and see the home as it ordinarily is.
