About Haydons Lodge

Haydons Lodge is a residential care home in Merton, south London, supporting adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, and people managing mental health conditions. We also offer respite stays. We treat this as the place where people live rather than the place where they have been put, and that shapes small decisions more than any statement of values could. People arrange their own rooms, have a say in the food and the shopping, and come and go as adults. Where somebody can do something for themselves, our job is to make that possible rather than to do it more quickly on their behalf. Being in London has practical benefits we try to use. Buses, shops, colleges, work and places to meet people are all within reach, and supporting somebody to use them independently is usually worth more than anything we could arrange indoors. We are careful about routine and about giving notice of change. For many of the people here, knowing what is happening and who will be on shift is what makes a day manageable, so we plan ahead rather than rearranging casually. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here what they would change about the place, and we would rather deal with a small complaint now than a serious one later.
