About Woodham House Stanstead
We are Woodham House Stanstead, a residential care home in Lewisham, south east London. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people with a mental health condition and people with a physical disability, and we offer respite stays. With that mix of people under one roof, the only workable approach is to plan around individuals. We spend real time at the start finding out how a person communicates, what they manage independently, what they want help with and what they would rather nobody touched. Getting that wrong early is difficult to undo, so we would rather take longer over it. Consistency is the other half of the job. Familiar staff, a routine somebody can rely on, information given in a form they can actually use. Where a person is distressed we look for the reason, because there is nearly always one and it is more often practical than psychological. People here keep as much control over their own lives as they can and want to, and where a decision needs support we support it rather than taking it over. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
