About Ashleigh House
We are Ashleigh House, a residential care home in Lewisham, south east London. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with a mental health condition, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Supporting someone with a mental health condition in a residential setting asks for patience and consistency more than anything else. Recovery is rarely a straight line, and a placement works best when the person is not treated as a problem to be managed on the difficult days. We try to keep things steady, hold to the routines people rely on, and work alongside community mental health teams, GPs and social workers so that everyone is pulling the same way rather than in different directions. People here keep as much control over their own lives as they want and are able to. That covers ordinary things such as when to get up, what to eat, how to spend the day and who to see, and it covers bigger decisions about care and treatment too. Where someone needs support to make a decision, we give it, and we are careful not to make the decision for them. We take respite referrals, which can help when a family carer needs a break or when someone needs a period of more structured support before returning home. We are regulated by the Care Quality Commission and our most recent overall rating is requires improvement. We are addressing the points raised, and we will talk frankly about them with anyone considering a placement here.
