About The Woodlands
The Woodlands is a residential care home in Nelson supporting younger adults, including people who have a learning disability, autistic people, people living with mental health conditions and people with a physical disability. It is a home rather than an institution and we work to keep it that way. People have their own rooms arranged as they want them, they have a say in how the house runs and support sits underneath ordinary life rather than taking it over. What we provide differs from person to person. Some need help with personal care, medication and daily routines. Some want practical support with cooking, budgeting, appointments and keeping a home in order. Some are mainly after steady, familiar people nearby while they build confidence and get on with their own plans. Where somebody has a physical disability we take the time that moving and transfers properly require. For people living with mental health conditions, consistency and staff who stay steady when things are difficult count for a great deal. For the autistic people we support, notice of change and clear communication do most of the work. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Please contact us if you would like to visit.
