About Atkinson Grove Chance for a Break Service
Atkinson Grove in Huyton is a care home providing short breaks. Most of the people who stay with us come for respite, and we support a wide range of needs, including older people, people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with mental health needs, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment, as well as younger adults. Respite has two jobs to do and we take both seriously. The person staying with us should have a genuine break, not simply be looked after somewhere else, so we ask what they enjoy and make sure the stay contains some of it. The family carer at home should be able to rest properly, which they only do if they trust us, so we gather the detail beforehand, the routines, the preferences, the things that unsettle somebody and the things that help, and we get them right from the first day. Because people come and go, our team has to be quick at knowing someone and careful about the handover back home. We write down what went well and what did not, and we tell families honestly. Many people return to us regularly, which means familiar faces and a familiar room. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and look round before booking.
