About Amy Woodgate
Amy Woodgate is a residential care home in Chessington for older people who need help with daily living, including many people living with dementia. We also offer respite stays. We are a small house and we use that. Staff know everyone who lives here, not as a set of care needs but as people with histories, tastes and opinions, and that knowledge is what lets us notice early when somebody is unwell or unhappy. Nobody has to explain themselves twice in a place where they are known. Day to day, life belongs to the person living it. People get up when they wake rather than when a rota suggests, keep their own belongings and furniture around them, spend the day in company or alone as they prefer, and are helped with washing and dressing quietly and at their own pace. Meals are cooked here and we ask what people want rather than presenting them with a fixed menu. Dementia care here rests on familiarity and patience. We learn a person's life story with their family when they arrive and keep adding to it, so that when words become harder we still have ways of offering comfort and recognition. Families are welcome at any reasonable time and we would rather you came often and casually than formally. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated the home good overall.
