About Thamesdale House
Thamesdale House is a residential care home in St Albans supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults building a more independent life. We are a home rather than a facility, and the people living here run their own lives as far as they are able. Ordinary life is what we are aiming at. That means cooking, shopping, keeping your own room as you like it, getting out to college, work or a club, and having a real say in how the week is arranged. For autistic residents we pay particular attention to routine, to explaining changes well in advance, and to keeping somewhere quiet available when the house feels like too much. Support is offered at whatever level suits each person, and we are as interested in what somebody can manage independently as in what they need help with. Respite stays are available for people needing support for a short period, or for families who need a break. We do not currently hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, so we would rather you came and formed your own view. Please get in touch if you would like to visit or to talk about whether we could be right for somebody. We will take it at whatever pace suits.
