About Ashgate House
Ashgate House is a residential care home in Romford. Those living here include older people, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities. We are home to younger adults as well as older ones, and we offer respite stays. Having a range of ages and needs under one roof means we plan for people individually rather than running one routine and hoping it fits. What a resident in their forties wants from a Wednesday afternoon is rarely what somebody forty years older wants, and treating those as the same thing serves neither of them. We take the ordinary business of a household seriously. Food, warmth, laundry that comes back, privacy, being spoken to as an adult, having a say in what happens. Where somebody can do something for themselves we support them to keep doing it, even when stepping in would be faster. Where a person communicates differently we deal with that first and properly, because the rest of our work rests on it. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. We ask residents and their families regularly what we should be doing differently, and we act on the answers, particularly the uncomfortable ones.
