About The Paddocks
The Paddocks is a residential care home in Hornchurch, in Havering, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. Most of the people who live here are younger adults, and we also offer respite care for planned short stays. This is a home rather than a placement. Everyone has their own room and their own things, decides how they want to spend the day, and is supported to do more for themselves over time rather than having it all done for them. Cooking a meal you chose, doing the shopping, keeping your room how you like it, managing money and appointments, getting to college or work, seeing friends and family, and going out locally when you feel like it: that is what a week is really made of, and it is where most of our attention goes. How we communicate matters as much as what we do. We adapt to the person, whether that means signing, symbols, pictures, plain speech, extra time or simply a quieter room, because being properly understood is where everything else begins. We ask people what they want rather than assuming, and we take the answer seriously even when it makes more work for us. We pay close attention to the environment too, since noise, pace, routine and predictability often matter more to somebody than anything we say. Support is agreed with each person and with anyone they want involved, written in a form they can understand, and reviewed honestly rather than left to drift. Please contact us if you would like to talk about a place or a short stay.
