About Sitwell Grove
Sitwell Grove is a residential care home in Stanmore supporting adults who have a learning disability and adults who are autistic. It is a small household rather than an institution, and the people who live here have a say in how it runs. Support is worked out individually. Some people need help with personal care and everyday tasks, some want support with cooking, shopping, money and appointments, and some mainly want reliable people around while they get on with work, college, clubs or seeing friends. We do what is wanted and no more, because taking over is easy and unhelpful. For autistic people, a great deal comes down to predictability and communication. We give notice before anything changes, we keep shared spaces manageable when it comes to noise and comings and goings, and we take trouble to learn how each person prefers to be given information. If somebody becomes distressed, we look for the cause rather than simply managing the outcome. Respite stays are available too, which can give families a planned break and give a person the chance to get to know us gradually. Harrow and the surrounding area are easy to get about from and we encourage people to make the most of that. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
