Bedford House is a residential care home in Harrow, north west London, supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. This is home for the people who live here, and we try to run it that way. Everyone has their own routines, their own tastes and their own ideas about what a good week looks like, so we do not work to a single timetable. Support might mean help with personal care, medication and health appointments, a hand with cooking, shopping and laundry, or someone alongside for a bus journey, a college course, a day at work or a visit to family. We take time to learn how each person tells us what they want or do not want, including those who use few or no words, so that choices genuinely belong to them. We also offer respite stays. For some families a planned break is what makes the rest of the year manageable, and for the person staying it can be a change of scene and a chance to try a little more independence. We work closely with families and with the professionals involved in someone's life, and we would rather raise a concern early than tidy it away. What matters more to us is whether people here are getting the life they want, which we review with them and their families regularly. You would be very welcome to visit and meet us.
