About Hibernia
Hibernia in Southampton is a residential care home supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults building towards more independent living. We run this as a home rather than a unit. Everybody has their own room and their own belongings, and the shape of the day belongs to the people who live here rather than to a staff timetable. Support is agreed with each person and with those who know them best, and it ranges from full help with personal care through to prompting and encouragement while somebody manages things for themselves. Communication gets a great deal of attention. Learning how each person expresses themselves, what settles them, what they find hard and what a change in behaviour is telling us is the core of doing this properly, and what we learn is recorded so that the whole team supports the person in the same way. People are supported to have a life beyond the front door, keeping up interests and activities, getting out into Southampton, attending appointments and staying in contact with family and friends. Respite stays can be arranged where appropriate. If you are looking for a placement, please contact us and come and see the house for yourself.
