About Oakwood House
Oakwood House is a residential care home in Gosport, Hampshire. We support adults who are autistic or who have a learning disability, including younger adults, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. What we are aiming for is an ordinary life with the right support wrapped around it. That means people choosing how their day runs, being involved in cooking and shopping, having their own space respected and going out into Gosport rather than spending life indoors. It also means we take the time to understand how each person communicates, what they find overwhelming and what helps them feel safe again when a day goes wrong. We support with personal care, medication, meals, money and appointments, always with an eye on what somebody would rather do themselves. Independence is not something we give people, it is something we try hard not to take away. Working with families and other professionals matters here. We ask relatives what they know, we share what we see, and we would much rather have an awkward conversation early than a serious problem later.
