About Khaya Project (Hillreach)
We are Khaya Project, part of Hillreach, a residential care home in Greenwich, south east London. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with a mental health condition, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Supporting somebody with a mental health condition in a residential setting asks for patience and steadiness above all. Some weeks go better than others, and a placement works when the person is not treated as a problem on the harder days. What helps is a settled environment, staff who do not take a bad day personally, and a routine that is there to lean on rather than to enforce. We work closely with community mental health teams, GPs and social workers, so that support here and support outside are actually joined up rather than running in parallel. People living here keep as much control over their own lives as they are able and wish to, covering ordinary decisions about the day and bigger ones about care and treatment. Where a decision needs support we provide it without substituting our judgement for theirs. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
