About The Old Vicarage []
We are a residential care home in Blakeney, supporting older people and younger adults. We care for adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people living with mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities, and we also offer respite stays. Because the people who live here differ so much in age and in what they need, we plan support individually rather than running the house to one timetable. Somebody who wants a good deal of independence and occasional help should get exactly that, and somebody who needs steady support through the whole day should get that without being made to feel a nuisance for it. Our team helps with personal care, medicines, mobility, cooking, money, appointments and getting out into the local area. We take time to learn how each person communicates, what unsettles them and what helps when they are anxious, and we write it down clearly so support does not depend on who happens to be on shift. Where somebody wants to build a skill or take on more for themselves, we back that and accept that progress is often uneven. Being in a quiet spot in the Forest of Dean suits many of the people here, and we make use of it. Getting outdoors is part of an ordinary week rather than a treat.
