About Dovecote Residential Care Home
Dovecote Residential Care Home is a residential care home in Rowlands Gill, Gateshead. We are home to older people and to younger adults who need support with daily life, including residents living with dementia, and we provide respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period. We think of this as somewhere people live, not somewhere care is delivered to them, and we try to make that difference obvious in how the house runs. Residents tell us when they like to get up, what they want to eat, how much help they want and where they prefer to spend the day. Support with personal care, meals, medication and appointments is given quietly and with proper regard for privacy, and independence is protected wherever it exists. Dementia care shapes much of our work. Knowing a person's history, the people and places that matter to them and the rhythms that suit them is what allows us to reassure someone who is anxious instead of arguing with them. We keep the day familiar and explain changes in advance wherever we can. Families are welcome whenever they want to come and we would far rather hear a worry while it is small. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and we keep it through the ordinary details that our residents notice day by day.
