About Eastham
Eastham is a residential care home at Woodham Ferrers in Essex. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We support younger adults too, and we offer respite stays. Quality here is made of small repeated things: a bath when somebody wants one rather than when the rota allows, a second helping if it is wanted, a chair by the window kept free for whoever always sits in it. Communication comes before anything else. Where somebody needs a particular approach we agree it, write it down and stick to it rather than improvising. For residents with physical disabilities we plan the practical side around what somebody can still manage themselves rather than what is quickest for us. For those living with dementia we protect the routine and ask families for the history that makes a person make sense to us. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would rather keep it by attending to ordinary days than by preparing for inspections.
