About The Bungalow
The Bungalow is a small residential home in Wickford, Essex, supporting adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays, planned in advance so that a short stay is a visit somewhere familiar. Because we support people with both learning and physical disabilities, a lot of our attention goes on practical detail. Equipment, hoists, transfers, seating and access all decide whether somebody can get where they want to go and do things for themselves, so we get them right and review them as needs change. Just as much attention goes on communication. Some people here use speech, others use signs, symbols or a device, and others tell us a great deal through their behaviour. Where sight or hearing loss is part of the picture, how we announce ourselves and give information matters enormously. Beyond that, this is somebody's home. People choose how their rooms look, help with the shopping and the cooking if they want to, and decide how their week is spent. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families and professionals are welcome to visit and see how we work.
