About Deansbrook Farm
Deansbrook Farm at Southminster is a residential home for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, most of them younger adults. We also offer respite stays. Being on a farm shapes daily life here in a way that matters. There is space, fresh air and real work to be done, and for many of the people who live here that is worth far more than any timetable of activities. People take part as much or as little as they want to, and the satisfaction of having done something that genuinely needed doing is hard to manufacture any other way. People live here for years, so we treat the place as their home and ourselves as part of the household. They decide how their rooms look, have a real say in what is bought and cooked, and shape the week around what they want to do. Support with personal care, medication, health appointments, money and getting about is given exactly as each person has agreed and recorded in detail so that every member of staff does it the same way. Communication is where the real work lies. Not everybody here uses speech, and understanding how a person shows a preference, a worry or a refusal is what makes choice genuine. We learn each person's way and write it down. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
