About The Ridings
The Ridings is a residential care home in Colchester supporting adults with a learning disability or autism and adults with a physical disability. We offer permanent places and respite stays. We run the house as a home rather than a unit. The people living here decide the ordinary things: what is for tea, what is on the television, what time the day starts, whether today is one for going out or staying put. Staff are here to make those choices possible, not to make them on anybody's behalf. Where somebody wants to take on more for themselves, we support it at their pace. That might be cooking, shopping, managing money, travelling independently or keeping up a job, a course or a volunteering placement. Where a person mainly needs life to be settled and predictable, that is an equally good aim and we treat it as such. Communication is something we pay real attention to, because understanding a person properly is the difference between them being in charge of their own life and having it arranged around them. Colchester is on the doorstep and people here use it, keeping up friendships, interests and routines from before they moved in. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are looking for a place or a respite stay in Essex, please get in touch and come and visit.
