About Stanway Villa
Stanway Villa is a residential care home in Colchester supporting adults with a learning disability or autism, including people living with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. We also offer respite stays. This is a home rather than a service, and we try to keep that distinction real. People have their own rooms and their own things, they take part in decisions about how the house runs, and they are supported to do as much for themselves as they want to. Cooking, shopping, managing money and getting out locally are done together rather than done for people. Communication is the foundation of everything. Some of the people who live here use speech, others use signs, symbols or gestures, and others show us what they need in ways that take time and patience to learn. We put that time in, and we make sure information about someone's own life reaches them in a form they can use. We pay close attention to sensory needs and to the practical business of getting around the building safely and independently, since both have a large effect on how much of the day belongs to the person. Routines are steady here, and changes are planned and explained well in advance. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. Please arrange a visit if you would like to see how we work.
