Ashcroft House is a residential care home in Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex. We support adults who are autistic or who have a learning disability and adults living with a physical disability, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Our aim is an ordinary life with the right support around it. People choose how their day runs, join in with cooking and shopping if they want to, have their own room treated as their own and get out into the town rather than spending life indoors. Support with personal care, medication, meals, money and appointments is given in a way that protects independence rather than quietly replacing it. Understanding how each person communicates is central to what we do. Someone who cannot easily say what hurts or what has upset them relies on us to notice, so we take the time to learn the signs, we record what we learn and every member of staff works to it. Warning before a change of plan, and patience when a day goes wrong, prevent far more distress than any response afterwards. Relatives are welcome and we would much rather hear a concern early.
