About Cranswick Lodge
Cranswick Lodge is a care home in Hutton Cranswick, a village in the East Riding of Yorkshire, and we provide residential care for older people. That includes people living with dementia and people with a physical disability, and we also take shorter respite stays when somebody needs a period of recovery or a family carer needs a rest. Being in a village suits the way we work. The home is small enough that everybody knows everybody, staff included, and that familiarity is worth more to our residents than any facility we could install. People keep their own routines, bring their own furniture and photographs, choose how much of the day they want to spend in company and how much on their own. We ask about the small things, write them down and expect them to be followed. Families are welcome whenever it suits them, and we try to keep in regular contact rather than only ringing when there is a problem. We want to be straightforward with you. Our most recent overall judgement from the Care Quality Commission was that we require improvement. We have taken that seriously, we have a plan of work in hand and we are making progress against it with support from colleagues in health and the local authority. If you are considering Cranswick Lodge for someone, come and look round and ask us exactly what went wrong and what we have done since. We would rather have that conversation than avoid it.
