About Stuart House
Stuart House is a residential care home in Hornsea, East Riding of Yorkshire, supporting older people and younger adults, including many people living with dementia. We try to run a house rather than an institution, and most of the difference lies in small decisions. People get up when they are ready rather than when a rota suggests. Meals are unhurried. Somebody who wants their own company can have it without being coaxed into the lounge. Help with washing and dressing is given in a way that protects dignity, which usually means asking first, explaining what we are doing, and never taking over a task a person can still manage themselves. Dementia care is a large part of what we do, and the most useful knowledge nearly always comes from families. What someone did for a living, who they are thinking of when they become anxious in the late afternoon, what music settles them. We ask for that history, write it down and pass it between shifts. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places, whether for a short period of care or to give a family carer a planned break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please do come and look round.
