About New Street
New Street is a residential care home in Brierley Hill supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, with respite stays available as well as permanent places. We are a small house deliberately, because support built around individuals works better than support built around a timetable, and because in a house this size everyone who works here knows everyone who lives here. We take time to learn how each person communicates, particularly when they are anxious and words become harder to reach, what their sensory needs are and which parts of a week are reliably difficult. That understanding is recorded clearly so that nobody supporting someone is working from guesswork, and support plans are written with the person in words that are theirs. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather set that out here than have somebody find it elsewhere. There is an agreed plan for the areas identified, we are working through it and being held to it, and anyone considering the house should ask us directly what has changed, what has not yet, and come and see the place for themselves.
