About Priors Piece
Priors Piece in Totnes is a residential care home supporting adults living with mental health conditions, including younger adults working towards greater independence. What we offer first is stability. For most of the people who come to live here, very little has been settled for a long time, and a predictable place with familiar staff and a routine that does not change without warning does more good in the early months than anything else. Everybody has their own room and their own way of going about the day. Staff are here at every hour to help with practical matters, to prompt and support with medication and to talk when that is what is needed. We work closely with the mental health professionals involved in each person's care so that the approach stays consistent rather than shifting. Much of what we do is deliberately ordinary, because ordinary things are what rebuild confidence. Cooking, shopping, looking after your own room, managing money, keeping appointments and getting out into Totnes are all things we do alongside people rather than for them. Progress is uneven and we do not treat a bad week as a failure. Respite stays can be arranged where appropriate. If you are looking for a placement, please contact us and come and see us.
