About Castle House

Castle House is a residential care home in Torrington, Devon. We support older people who need help with daily life, people with physical disabilities and younger adults who need residential care, and we offer respite stays for short periods. We are small enough that everybody here is properly known, and that is the basis of everything else we do. Our team notices when somebody eats less than usual, sleeps badly, seems low or becomes unsteady on their feet, and it is dealt with the same day rather than waiting for a review. Residents decide how their own days go. When to get up and go to bed, what to eat, whether to sit with others or keep to their own room. Rooms hold people's own furniture and photographs, and we knock before we come in. Where somebody has a physical disability we work around what they can do for themselves rather than taking over, because independence lost is hard to get back. Being in a small Devon town has its advantages. People are known locally, family and friends call in freely, and getting out is straightforward rather than an expedition. Health needs are managed alongside local GPs and community nurses, and families hear from us early when anything changes. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and look round.
