About Clearbury

Clearbury is a residential care home in Tiverton supporting adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and people with visual or hearing impairments, including many younger adults. We provide permanent places and planned respite stays. We run a house where people live rather than a unit where people are placed. Residents have their own rooms, a real say in how the household works and support that has been planned with them instead of written about them. Staff are here to help people do things for themselves wherever that is possible, and we look for ways to build skills rather than quietly taking tasks over. Getting the environment right is fundamental. Noise, lighting, predictability and knowing what is coming next often decide whether someone is settled or permanently braced. Where a resident has a sensory impairment we adapt communication and surroundings rather than expecting them to adjust to us, and details like contrast, layout and background noise make a bigger difference than people expect. Where a person signs, uses symbols or an app, or communicates through behaviour we have learned to read, the responsibility for understanding sits with us. We also support people to keep up college, work, volunteering, friendships and family contact, because a placement should never become someone's entire world. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Please come and visit and meet the people who live here.
