About SENSE - 5 Seafield Road

We are the Sense home at Seafield Road in Seaton, Devon. We support adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss, including older people, and we are able to offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Much of our expertise lies in supporting people who have both a sensory impairment and other support needs. That combination shapes everything about how we work. We take real trouble to learn how each person receives information and makes themselves understood, whether that is through speech, signing, touch, objects or their own personal signals. Until we have got that right, nothing else we do will be reliable, so we keep checking that we have understood correctly rather than assuming. The house belongs to the people who live in it. Residents have a say in how their rooms look, what happens during the week, what goes on the menu and who supports them. Support with personal care, medication, eating and moving safely is given thoroughly where it is needed and withheld where somebody manages perfectly well alone. Getting out matters too. We support people to be part of life in Seaton and the surrounding area, to keep up with family and friends, and to do the things they enjoy rather than the things that are simply easy to arrange. Families, social workers and health colleagues are welcome to visit and to ask us anything about how we work.
