About Pilton House Trust

We are a residential care home in Barnstaple, providing a home for older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia, people with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with loss of sight or hearing. Our aim is a settled house where help is close at hand without taking over somebody's life. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Where someone needs help with washing, dressing or moving about, we try to give it without hurry and without doing more of the task than is actually needed. Dementia care rests on knowing the person rather than following a procedure, so we ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits. Where sight or hearing is poor, small habits matter a great deal: saying who you are on coming into a room, speaking clearly and not moving things about without saying so. Meals are cooked here and we listen when somebody would rather have something different. Family and friends are welcome whenever they wish to come. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and look round before deciding anything.
