About The Koppers Residential Home
The Koppers is a residential home in Axminster. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Living here should feel like living somewhere, not being placed somewhere. People bring their own furniture and pictures, keep their own routines as far as they are able, and decide for themselves whether to join in with what is going on or shut their door. There is company for those who want it and quiet for those who do not. Dementia and sensory loss both ask for patience from a staff team. We check that hearing aids and glasses are working and being used, keep rooms well lit and free of clutter, sit where a person can see our face, and give people time to answer rather than filling the silence for them. Where words become difficult, knowing a person's history is what carries us through, and families usually hold that knowledge. We work closely with GPs, district nurses and community teams across east Devon, and we keep relatives properly involved rather than contacting them only when something has gone wrong. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are considering residential care or respite around Axminster, please come and visit at an ordinary time of day.
