About Paxton House

Paxton House is a small residential home in Derby supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, including younger adults moving on from a family home or from another setting. We also offer respite stays, planned in advance so that a short stay feels like going somewhere familiar. We run the house as the residents' home rather than as our workplace. People decide how their rooms look, have a say in the shopping and the meals, and get involved in cooking and looking after the place as much as they want to. Support covers personal care where it is needed, health appointments, managing money and keeping in touch with family, and it covers getting out to the things people care about, whether that is a job, a course, a club, a gym or a regular trip into town. Communication is where we put most of our effort. Some people here use speech, some use signs, symbols or a device, and some tell us what they need through their behaviour. We take time to learn it, we record what we learn, and we ask families and health colleagues who have known the person far longer than we have. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families and professionals are always welcome to visit and see for themselves.
