About Oakwood Bungalows
Oakwood Bungalows is a residential care home in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. As the name suggests, the setting is domestic in scale, and that is deliberate. People live in a house, not on a unit. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, alongside older people who need residential care, and we welcome younger adults too. Support is built around the individual, which in practice means learning how someone communicates, what settles them, what unsettles them and what they want their week to contain. Some people want a full diary and plenty of company. Others want a calm house and a small number of people they trust. Both are entirely reasonable. Day to day we help with personal care, health appointments, meals, money and keeping in touch with family, and we support people to get out into Chesterfield and the surrounding area for the ordinary things, shopping, a walk, a favourite cafe, a club. We also offer respite stays, which give families a planned break and give the person a change of scene somewhere they can settle quickly. We work openly with families, social workers and health colleagues, and we would rather raise a concern early than let it grow. If you are considering a placement in Derbyshire, please come and visit, meet the team and see how the house actually runs.
