About Fairplay - Home Based Support Service
Fairplay provides residential and home based support in Chesterfield and across Derbyshire. We work with people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss and younger adults, and we offer respite stays as well. Our aim is fairly specific: to make an ordinary life genuinely available rather than nominally available. That means starting with what somebody wants their week to contain and then working out what stands in the way, rather than starting with a list of tasks. Where a physical disability or sensory loss affects how somebody gets about, we design around the person rather than expecting them to fit our arrangements, and we are careful that help with one thing does not quietly become help with everything. Respite matters here too. A planned break gives a family carer rest they can actually count on, and gives the person staying with us a change of scene and different company. Short stays leave no time to settle in slowly, so we ask families to tell us everything, including the details they assume are too small to mention. We put real effort into understanding how each person communicates, particularly where sight or hearing loss makes that harder, and we write down what we learn so that everybody responds the same way. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and we keep asking the people we support what needs to change.
