About Beechwood House
Beechwood House is a residential care home in Chesterfield supporting older people and adults with a learning disability or autism, including younger adults, and we offer respite stays. We support a mixed group of people and we plan around each of them individually. Nobody here is treated as a type. What we want to know is how somebody's day used to run, what they can do for themselves, what they want help with and what they would rather we left well alone. For residents with a learning disability or autism, the work starts with communication. We learn how each person tells us what they need, in words or otherwise, and we build routines that are steady and predictable. Notice before change is not a nicety here, it is what makes change manageable. We also support people to do things for themselves, from cooking and shopping to getting out locally, since independence is built through practice. For our older residents the emphasis is on keeping the ordinary shape of a life going, with familiar routines, proper meals and company when it is wanted. Respite guests are part of the household while they are with us. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. If you would like to visit, please contact us. We are happy for people to come back more than once before deciding anything.
