About 15 The Sycamores
We are 15 The Sycamores, a small residential care home in Alfreton, Derbyshire. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with mental health conditions, and we also offer respite stays. Being small is the point of us. It means people are not coping with a constant stream of unfamiliar faces, that routines can be genuinely individual rather than dictated by a large rota, and that we usually know without being told when somebody is having a difficult day. A good deal of what we do is about steadiness without rigidity. For many of the people living here, a predictable day, a proper meal, a decent night's sleep, medication that is right and taken, and somebody who notices how you are doing make the difference between coping and struggling. At the same time this is a home and not a programme. People see their families, keep up their own interests and decide for themselves how the day goes, and where somebody wants to work towards living more independently we support that. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. Until we do, we would rather you asked us direct questions about how we work, how our staff are supported and what happens when things go wrong. Please ring us if you would like to visit.
