About Oak Field
Oak Field in West Croydon is a residential care home supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults working towards greater independence. We run this as somebody's home rather than as a unit. Everybody has their own room and their own belongings, and the shape of the day belongs to the people who live here. Support is agreed with each person and with those who know them best, and it ranges from full help with personal care through to prompting and encouragement while somebody manages things for themselves. Communication is at the heart of the work. We take time to learn how each person makes themselves understood, what settles them, what they find difficult and what their behaviour is telling us when they cannot say it directly. What we learn is written down and shared so that the whole team supports the person in the same way. People are supported to have a life beyond the front door, keeping up interests and activities, getting out into Croydon, attending appointments and staying in touch with family and friends. Respite stays can be arranged where appropriate. If you are looking for a placement for somebody, please contact us. We will assess carefully and tell you honestly if we are not the right service.
