About Tanglewood Mews
Tanglewood Mews is a residential care home in Stanley, County Durham. We support adults who have a learning disability and autistic adults, alongside older people needing residential care, and a good deal of our work is with younger adults. Support here is built around the individual. Some people need help with personal care and daily routines, some want practical support with cooking, budgeting, appointments and keeping a room as they like it, and some mainly want dependable people nearby while they get on with college, work, volunteering or their own social life. For the autistic people we support, predictability does most of the work. We plan ahead, explain changes before they happen and pay attention to noise, light and how busy the shared areas get. Where somebody becomes distressed, we treat that as information about something that needs changing rather than as behaviour to be managed. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places, which can suit a family needing a planned break or a person wanting to try the house first. Stanley and the surrounding area have plenty within reach and we encourage people to make use of it. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a visit.
